Cut-off and delivery times for international payments
We’ve improved the international payments experience. Each currency now has a cut-off time. This means you need to send your payment by a specific time for same-day processing. We'll also tell you how many days it should take for the payment to reach the payees bank.
To see the cut-off times and how long the payment should take to arrive with the payee's bank, select the relevant currency from the dropdown list.

Frequently asked questions
-
If you send an international payment after the currency cut-off time, the system processes it on the next working day. This also applies to payments sent at the weekend or on a bank holiday.
-
Requirements for international payments differ by country and may change over time. This means we might need to ask for extra information for a payee you’ve sent a payment to before.
-
If you send an international payment before the currency cut-off time, we'll generally debit your account on the same day. If you make your request after the cut-off time, we may debit your account on the next working day.
-
We have strengthened and simplified our authentication processes. If authentication is necessary, we'll request that you re-enter some key information from the payment request.
-
You can select who pays the charges on each payment. We’ll show the options that are available for the selected currency from the following list:
- SHA - Share charges with payee.
- BEN - Payee pays all charges.
- OUR - You pay all charges.
The screen explains each option and includes any related costs. This way, you can choose the option that suits your payment needs.
-
This is temporary while we transition to the new international payment’s screens.
Any new payments created using the updated screens will appear under the International tab. If you initiated an international payment before the transition and it still needs approval, you'll find it listed under the UK tab on the approvals page.
The authorisation history shows payments from the past 6 months. To find details on earlier international payments, check the UK tab. You may need to do this until the 6-month period ends.
-
We have strengthened and simplified our approval and authentication processes.
Authentication is required from the final approver the first time new or updated payee details are used in a payment.
-
No, you can't cancel an international payment after you've sent it. This applies to payment requests sent before and after the daily cut-off times.
If you've sent a payment in error, we can try to recall it for you. This is on a best-efforts basis and there's a charge for this service. If the recall is successful, then the amount returned may be for a different amount due to exchange rate differences.
