Changes to banking and shopping online

Make sure you are prepared

Later this year there will be industry wide changes that will affect the way you bank and shop online. These changes will enhance the security of your online banking and payments to help reduce fraud online.

You will see these changes when:

  • You log on to your Online For Business account
  • You perform certain actions within your Business Internet Banking account e.g. making a payment
  • You purchase something online

In future you will need two different ways to prove who you are. Your password and memorable information will count as one way. The other way could be using your Business Mobile App or your Card and Reader, or accessing your account from a trusted device.


You won’t be able to log on to your account, or shop online unless you are ready for this change.

Get ready now

  • You will have to log on each time using your memorable information. If you haven’t already registered for this, you can do this now by:

    Step 1: Log on to your Business Internet Banking account

    Step 2: Click on “Settings”, which you can find in the top right hand corner of your page

    Step 3: Click on “change memorable information”

    Step 4: Follow the instructions on your screen

  • The app is an easy, secure and quick way to prove it is you and complete your transactions. It has new features including fingerprint and face ID, cheque scanning and the ability to make payments including multiple payments.

    To download the app you will need to do the following:

    • Be registered for Business Internet Banking
    • Search 'Bank of Scotland Business'
    • Download from the App Store or get it from Google Play
  • If you don’t already have a Card and Reader, then it’s a good idea to get one. You’ll need to use either the app or a Card and Reader to complete some actions in Business Internet Banking. If you need to order a Card and Reader please follow the steps below:

    Step 1: Log on to your Online for Business account

    Step 2: Click on “Admin” on the top right hand side

    Step 3: Click on “order additional card reader”

    Step 4: Follow the instructions on your screen

  • Update your browser

    It is recommended that you always have the latest browser on your devices to increase your security online and help protect you from fraud.

    Updating your browser regularly means that when you access websites you’ll always be able to take advantage of:

    • Up-to-date browser security features – Stay safe online and have peace of mind that you’re being protected by the latest security features.
    • A better online experience – Websites will look better and perform faster, and you’ll be able to use the latest features and tools they have to offer.
    • Screen reader support – The latest browsers make it easier for newer screen readers to handle web technologies, such as JavaScript. If you have JavaScript turned off because it interferes with your screen reader, make sure your browser is up-to-date and try updating your screen reader or using another, such as the free tool NVDA

    Internet Explorer

    If you choose not to upgrade your browser, there will be parts of our sites that you won’t be able to use. For example, our Internet Banking service isn’t supported in Internet Explorer 6 and 7. You will also find it harder to use some calculators and tools.

    Trust your device

    If you regularly use the same computer, laptop, mobile, tablet or mobile to log on, then we may ask if you trust your device.

    If you trust your device it makes logging on faster, as next time you log on we’ll know it’s you and not someone else.

    You should only trust computers, laptops, tablets and mobile browsers that are privately used by you.

    You shouldn’t trust a device if you share it with someone you don’t know, or if you’re on a public network.

  • When shopping online you may start to see some additional checks, and we will sometimes need to contact you whilst you are making a purchase. To check we have the correct mobile number for your business debit card, please follow the steps below:

    Step 1: Log on to your Business Internet Banking account
    Step 2: Click on “Your Profile”
    Step 3: Under “Your Personal Details” review your mobile number
    Step 4: If this is not correct, please complete sections one, two and five of the change of address and contact details form which can be found here and sign and return it to us or, you can also update us in branch.
